Vineyards - The 2013 Melting Pot Shiraz is made fruit sourced from both the Eden and Barossa Valleys. The Barossa portion brings weight, a depth of colour and richness and the Eden Valley portion style, perfume and structure to the wine.

Winemaking - All of our reds are handmade small batch ferments. The grapes are destemmed but not crushed before being cold soaked for 3 or 4 days (to lock in the lovely fruit of Barossa/Eden Shiraz). At this point, the natural yeasts begin the fermentation. Fermentation is a long cool process with twice daily pump overs and loads of attention to detail in the shed.
With our classic old Wilmes press, we gently press the wines and settle them for a couple of days before selecting the best oak for each parcel. After 12 months in barrel (20% new or 1 yr old French and American) all the batches are racked and the best blended and returned to oak for a further 12 months maturation before bottling. Made to drink now with a good pizza and will cellar well for 5 or 10 years.

Tasting Note

Colour - Bright purple/crimson with a dark centre

Nose - A complex lifted nose showing chocolate and forest fruit with distinct cool climate pepper and mint tones.

Palate - A medium to full bodied wine with great mouthfeel. The richness and intensity of valley floor fruit is beautifully balanced by the style and structure of Eden Valley fruit. 2013 was a great year for the Barossa and this is evident in the intense chocolate, mint and pepper shown on the palate. The finish is long and generous and will continue to develop with careful cellaring.
